Excerpts from Fire Mountain

Paragraph concerning "Wolf"

"How could you have known about Wolf before this?" she asked. As usual, Angelique was intrigued by the mystery of Navarone.
"He is a wanderer through time, his line broken by interbreeding." Navarone spoke dreamily, her black eyes half closed. "Wolves are by nature, clannish. He has felt lost all his life and searches for the pack even in his dreams. Wolf has roamed far and wide," she continued. "He has visited Navarone's house in his dreams."  Her right arm swept the dimensions of the room as if she saw the mysterious hybrid wolf at that moment. "Wolf has waited for your coming to Fire Mountain. You, Angelique, are the closest he has felt to being home. Has he challenged your leadership?"

Paragraph concerning Angel and Tyler:

Angelique, out of breath, gasping, on fire with a passion she'd never known, drew on a strength and resistance she had no inkling she was capable. Sheer instinct drove her emotions. All her feelings about protecting her life and happiness after experiencing the craziness of her marriage to Philip Manning flashed through her mind. Everything was happening too fast-- especially her feelings for this rugged attractive man- - a man whom she found herself so much in love. The eerie unexplainable happenings in the old mountain home suddenly pressed upon her mind. Coupled with her intense feelings for Tyler and the happening of the destruction of her sister's picture just this night, set her emotions afire like a time bomb. She'd received the lovely eight by ten picture of Michelli in the mail just that afternoon. The house had been broken into, and her sister's picture slashed to pieces where she'd put it temporarily on the dining room table. She suspected it was Cary's doings. How could she be sure that Cary was not still in Tyler's thoughts? She could see he was a passionate man, and Cary had been with him until ...until when?
In a flash, two hundred pounds of Italian manhood looked up in shock from where he'd landed face down on the living room floor...his eyes revealing the amazement he felt at being thrown off the sofa by this slender beautiful woman.

Paragraph concerning: Tyler and Angel:

Tyler spread a thick quilt on the ground next to the fire, and they sat down before the glow of the fire and it's warmth. Tyler threw some twigs and small logs on and the fire blazed up shooting sparks like a miniature fireworks display.
He stared into the fire as if avoiding contact with her lovely eyes. "I think you had better know about Cary. I have a feeling she'll give me some trouble." His voice faltered as he went on. It seemed like the hardest thing he'd ever done to admit to the affair with Cary Nichols, but he had a feeling in his gut that he had better.
"You don't have to tell me anything private, Ty. Your life is your business."
"But I want to Angel. I want to ask you to be mine babe, and I can't unless you know about her, and that it's over." His pulse leaped at the beauty of her as he looked into her eyes. "It's over with her Angel, you must believe me." He turned and gathered her in his arms. "You said to ask next time," he whispered. "How about it?" His mouth was so close to hers that she could smell his clean sweet breath. She could feel his heart pounding, and his arms felt wonderful about her. She managed to whisper, "don't rush it Ty," before his warm lips came down to meet hers.

Paragraph concerning Cary Nichols:

Cary Nichols sat in her aunt's apartment waiting to hear from Rick. She paced her room, smoking one cigarette after another, downing her favorite drink, Crown Royal on the rocks. Then she threw herself down on a living room chair and sipped at her drink, waiting for Rick's call, and thinking about him. She'd met Rick at a downtown bar in Portland, at about the same time she'd met Tyler Casini. They'd hit it right off, her and Rick. So what if he had connections to the mob, she thought. You don't get anywhere in this life without knowing the right people. She liked Rick a lot. He was a smooth operator, and knew the ropes. Rick would always be in her life, she laughed. He was an OK man in bed too. Tyler was all man, and between having Rick and Tyler, she'd be set, she thought. She liked the devil-may-care fast side of Rick-- the thrill of him. But he wasn't the man that Tyler was. If she could manage to have them both and get her hands on the Casini wealth, she'd be one happy gal.
