Preface
Memories
One
of my fondest memories of early adolescence was seeing the Movie "South
Pacific".
I
am sure the music from that wonderful production has inspired many a writer.
We
have all marvelled at the creative genius of people who have written musicals
for stage and screen such as Rogers & Hammerstein.
Undoubtedly
Stage and Screen are wonderful media for the expression of human experience.
Almost all successful movies have a sound track with a musical score which
adds so much more to our enjoyment.
The
idea of combining books with music is not entirely new, with early examples
of hardcover books being sold with an accompanying record or tape.
Multi Media
With
the advent of multi -media on home computers, we now have the ability to
produce E-books or electronic books.
E-books
have distinct advantages over the hard paper copies.

They are
easily distributed throughout the world at the speed of light.
-
There
is no need to use paper thus saving trees and our environment.
-
There
is no need for publishing houses, storehouses or shops.
-
All the
ensuing expenses and problems of distribution are eliminated.

The end
result is lower costs and ready access for the reader

The availability
of computers is rapidly spreading across the world so access to E-books
will become common place.
MIDI Music
The
ability to add sound as well as vision to our creative pallete we have
in effect, a new medium with which to entertain our audience.
By
combining MIDI music with an E-book we can create a virtual environment
for the reader which allows the senses to be overwhelmed and the imagination
to soar to new heights. Photographs and drawings can still be used in the
traditional way. The visual experience can be further enhanced with video.
Sound effects can also be introduced to add to the readers enjoyment.
Copyright
Midi
music has become a world standard for music reproduction which does not
greatly impinge on the copyright of the original song writers.

Lovers
of music can appreciate hearing any musician's interpretation of the original
score just as if one would attend a concert and hear a rendition of music
written by any famous songwriter.
The
instrumental rendition is so open to variations in interpretation that
it can be considered to be copyright in itself.
The
blatant copying of an original score as released by the recording studio
however is to be completely discouraged and will certainly cause authors
that use this material, to become the subject of litigation.
The
use of Midi music will also increase the opportunity for budding musicians
to display their talents by creating musical scores for authors to use
in their E-books.
The New Musical
Multi
- talented author-musicians will soon emerge as a new breed of writers
producing a new type of Musical for the world to enjoy.
Works
of exceptional brilliance will be given the opportunity to become stage
productions or movies.
This Website
In
launching this website we invite contributions from authors from around
the world.
Midi
E-books can be advertised for a small fee and proceeds of the sales sent
direct to the author in much the same way as writers of software distribute
their programs through web sites that specialize in new software.
We
hope this site will become a forum for enthusiastic authors and readers
alike, where ideas and methods of creating Musical E-books can be exchanged
for the benefit of all.
We
would like this site to become a centre, where Midi E-books can be marketed
to the world. A website where authors, musicians and readers alike
can share a common bond of love for music and the written word.
My Contribution
I
am humbled to contribute my first attempt at writing a Midi E-book without
any previous experience in writing. No doubt it will be viewed as
amateurish from many aspects.
However
I so enjoyed the experience of writing this book, I was inspired to create
this website.
Your Contribution
I
hope my book will inspire other amateur writers to try their hand at Midi
E-book creation. Even if you do no more than write a short Midi E-book
about your own life and give it to your children, you will be thrilled
with the experience and it will bring great pleasure to all your family.
The
addition of music that you have heard throughout your life, brings another
dimension of passionate expression to your writing.
Most
people will admit that upon hearing a certain song or melody, they will
clearly associate it with a period in their life, be it connected with
feelings of happiness or sadness or some other emotion.
People
of the same age group and cultural background will very likely recall the
same tunes and enjoy the multi-media experience of a Midi E-book.
I encourage
you all to write to me and I will begin an Ezine that will help authors
to exchange ideas and give them a way to announce the publishing of books.
