The Steps to Creating MIDI eBooks
- Part I

Write a Story Outline
Just do a rough outline of what your story will be about.
It's easier to use your own life experiences as a basis, because you can do a lot from memory and you will write faster and with passion.
Invent characters, if neccessary use real characters but change their names to avoid embarrassment, libel or defamation suits. Try the Xerotron Idea Generator
Choose the environment, country, city etc, Choose a period - The past, present day or the future. The past is the easiest because you can draw on a vast amount of historical information to add interest to your story, but you will need to be reasonably accurate in your references otherwise your readers will pick your mistakes and criticise you.  The present or future will be more attractive to younger readers. Young readers in general seem to have little interest in history. That interest develops with maturity.  The future will demand more imagination but it will appeal to a wider audience of fiction lovers and you will have total freedom for your fanatasy without being restricted by the facts of history.

Do your Research
Gather all the facts that pertain to your story.  You can do this at your library, but the Internet now makes this task faster and more accurate. You can find out something about almost anything on the Internet.  If you can't find it, you're probably just looking in the wrong places.  A subscription to Encyclopaedia Brittanica is worth every cent because you will find huge amounts of information all in one convenient place.
Gather pictures and photos to add interest and to illustrate your story.

Write the Text
This is the real work of writing and may take much longer than you anticipate.
I recommend that you only write when you feel fresh and awake. It's no use sitting for hours, feeling tired and not making progress. This situation can hinder your progress even further. You will feel discouraged and frustrated. Once you get "on a roll" and the words come easily, you will make more progress in one hour than you would otherwise make in a whole day. Make sure you feel comfortable. A good chair will allow you to sit for long periods without fatigue or back strain.  Try to take a short break at least once an hour to stretch your legs and have a cup of tea. This will allow you to clear your thoughts so you can be even more productive. It goes without saying that you should work somewhere where it is quiet without distractions or the chance of being disturbed by anyone.

Spell Check
Most text editors come with a spell checker so use it.  Don't assume that when the spell check is finished that the text is error free!  There are many traps for the newbie!
Duplicate words, missing words, innapropriate capitals, malappropisms and all sorts of little errors tend to creep in while your not looking.
